Marissa Barrett is an accessories maker, social entrepreneur, counselor, and Nashville native. She designs outdoor goods for compassionate, adventurous women who want to create a healthy, sustainable lifestyle.
Forgiveness and second chances are important to her. She doesn't believe that our past defines us. That's why a portion of profits supports mental health counseling in Nashville.
It's her goal to empower women to find rest, healing, community, and self reliance through both traditional forms of therapy and connection to the outdoors.
Nashville's her hometown. After graduating college in California, she had to go back because she loves it there — "Nashville is such a beautiful place, where heritage meets creativity and people come together to inspire and serve one another."
She studied apparel construction and has a BA in Psychology and an M.Ed in Counseling. Like you, she cares about how the goods she buys were made and about who made them. When you support Novel Creature, you can make a difference knowing that your goods were made ethically and that your purchase supports a greater cause.
Since starting online in 2011, Novel Creature has been sold in 5 stores in Tennessee and featured in Southern Living, Nashville Lifestyles, and on the Nashville Mom Blog. Marissa's participated in several festivals and craft shows including Nashvember, raising money to help victims of sex trafficking. In 2014 and 2016, she hosted a festival with local vendors, musicians, food trucks, and a local brewery to raise money for the same nonprofit that she supports through sales.
